What makes a freelance writer resume different


A traditional resume tells an employer: "Here's what I did for one company over time."

This is where most freelance writers undersell themselves. Two common mistakes:

  1. Listing duties instead of outcomes like: "Wrote articles for clients" tells nobody anything useful.
  2. Hiding impressive numbers. If your work drove 200K page views, say so!

Use this structure for each bullet:

Action verb + what you did + for whom (context) + result (with numbers)

Common Mistakes to Avoid


1. Using "freelance" as an excuse for vagueness.
Freelance work is still work. Document it the same way an in-house writer would, with dates, outputs, and results.
